I have a technical problem, how can I report this?
If you have a technical malfunction in the home you rent, you can report this to the landlord and/or the property manager. The contact details can be found in the rental contract. Make sure you clearly describe what the problem is (a picture can be helpful in some cases) so that targeted action can be taken as quickly as possible.
Which faults do I have to solve myself?
The rule of thumb is that 'daily maintenance' or minor repairs in the home are for the tenant and that 'major maintenance' or major repairs are for the landlord. The legislator has further elaborated this in the Minor Repairs Decree. This indicates what should in any case be regarded as 'minor repairs'. If you have any questions about this, please contact your landlord.
What should I do in the event of fire or burglary?
In the event of fire or burglary, call 112 immediately!
What should I do in the event of an electrical fault?
Check the fuse box
In the event of an electrical fault, always first check the fuse box to see whether a fuse has blown. It is possible that a short circuit has occurred after an electrical appliance has been switched on. Check which device is causing the short circuit and make sure that this device is not connected to the mains.
What if you can't figure out the problem yourself?
If you cannot find out what is causing the problem, please contact the landlord or the appointed property manager.
What should I do if I smell gas?
Gas leak
If you smell gas, immediately turn off the main gas tap in the meter cupboard and call the grid operator: 0800-9009 (available 24 hours a day). Then contact the landlord or manager.
How can I turn off the gas?
To turn off the gas, the main gas tap must be closed. The main gas valve can be a lever, a yellow button or a turning wheel and is always located next to the gas meter. The gas meter can usually be found in either the meter cupboard by the entrance of the building or in the basement.
My heating is not working (properly), what should I do?
If the heating is not working or is not working properly it is best to contact the landlord or property manager. They can then call in a heating engineer to resolve the issue.
